What is a Device Lab?

A device lab is a collection of mobile phones, tablets and other devices that people can use to access the Internet to help everyone have access to a range of devices for testing their websites. In addition to that it provides access to peripherals like the Oculus Rift as well as other hardware like Arduino boards to help the community prototype, develop and test their next startup idea.

Why a Device Lab?

The fragmentation of operating systems and browsers as well as the diversity of internet-enabled devices makes it impossible for the vast majority of developers to personally own a representative pool of test devices. Nevertheless, quality assurance across real devices is a must to ensure a pleasant user experience, sufficient stability and security. A device lab provides access to developers to a large pool of testing platforms without the need of large investment on their part. This in turn lowers the entry bar for developers to turn their startup ideas into reality and thus grow the tech community as a whole.
